As you may have noticed, our church is really intentional about creating opportunities for people to eat together. Just in the last week, there were FOUR opportunities for people in our faith community to break bread together.
You might think it’s strange to say, but there’s something magical about food and its ability to bring people together.
Could you imagine the turnout for Neighborhood Breakfast minus the breakfast? It would be a light crowd. And, yet, I’m certain that if there was no breakfast, the food would not be the only thing our neighborhood friends would miss.
And not just our friends, but those of us who serve.
We all know that we are sustained, physically, by the nourishment we get from food. What’s less obvious is how we are sustained, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically by our relationships with one another.
Mealtimes are great opportunities to create and sustain connections to each other and to practice gratitude for the food and fellowship God generously has provided.
Ask anyone who comes to Family Dinner on Wednesday nights in The Grove. That dinner is about so much more than food. It’s a chance for people of faith come together to share life — the ups, downs and everything in between.
Ask Janeen, David, Sue or Lionel about why they volunteer on Wednesday nights. “People have to eat,” is not a response you’ll hear. They know that they serve God by serving others; they know that their ministry has the capacity to change lives.
When we meet together to eat together, we honor our creator and His creation.
Thanks be to God!
