Earlier this week, I was traveling through the boonies (that’s what many people of my vintage call the country) and I happened upon a little country church. It was one of those white-clad postcard churches that you see in old movies.
I noticed that they had two driveways, and each had a sign: Enter to worship, exit to serve.
At first, I thought it was a really cool message — a novel idea. But then I quickly put it in the context of our church, where so many people enter to serve and exit to serve.
Service, as we have discussed in the past, is a form of worship. When we offer hospitality, we worship. When we choose to use our words to affirm and uplift others, we worship. When we are willing to share the burdens of others as our own, we worship.
And, of course, when we get up early on New Year’s Day to go to church to serve at Neighborhood Breakfast, this is also a form of worship.
And, lucky for you, we need worshippers on New Year’s Day!
Please let me know if you can join us at Neighborhood Breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m. on January 1. The main service will begin at 9: 30 a.m.
Merry Christmas!
