The Upside-Down Kingdom: The Gospel of Matthew

On Wednesday night, we will dive into the first half of the first book of the New Testament, the Gospel of Matthew. While it may not be the oldest of the Gospels, it is the book that is most closely tied to the Old Testament prophecy about the Messiah to come.

And that, most importantly, is what the Gospel of Matthew is about — Jesus Christ as the fulfillment of the scriptures about the long-awaited Messiah.

But there’s a catch: this Messiah came to us in humility, born into ordinary circumstances. This was not the conquering King sent to vanquish the enemies. Quite the contrary, this King came to us riding a donkey, commanding his troops to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us.

This King came to serve not to be served.

In Matthew, we learn about this kingdom, one that is not of this world. It is an “upside-down” kingdom in which everyone has a seat at the Master’s table. This is the Good News of the Gospel, that we can be heirs of God the Most High.

We would love to see you at family dinner starting at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday with Pipe downstairs at 6.

Also, since we have a theme going, it might not hurt to brush up on royal trivia.

Until then!
