Gospel Reflection: God Abides in us, and we in Him

Matt and I reflect on the fact that, as Christians, God abides in us and we abide in Him. In Old Testament times, there was a widespread belief that God had a dwelling place, as in the Temple, and that we needed to go there to be with Him. Scriptures like this one turn that belief on its head.

“Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them.”

In this same Gospel, Jesus says that anyone who loves him will obey His teaching, and further: “My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” (John 14:23).

God, the creator of all things, dwells within us. He has chosen to live among us and, indeed, in us. As Matt points out, we are His hands and feet.
